Akuma Nihmune, also known as Numi, is releasing her new EP Carry me Home on June 17. Her most popular cover, CPR, recently reached 500k plays on Spotify and 500k views on YouTube. We had the opportunity to talk to Numi about her career as a VTuber, her anime favorites, and her upcoming EP.
There are a lot of great anime this season. Are there any that you’re into at the moment?
Spy x Family. I can’t get enough of the Forger family and feel like it’s one of the most refreshing comedies in a while!
We like to celebrate best girl and boy at Anime Trending. Who are your picks for the best?
My best girl will always be Utaha Kasumigaoka from Saekano. I have multiple figurines of her and even a body pillow cover that I enjoy snuggling on those lonely nights. As for my best girl of this season, I love Yor Forger. As you can tell, I’m a sucker for black haired beauties, and she is no exception. She’s strong yet adorably awkward and just wants the best for her family. Another favorite is Becky Blackbell. Watching her stick up for Anya and prove to be a loyal friend to her made me feel so happy! Every character in the show is incredible.
Any plans to Watch Summer 2022 Anime?
Aside from the sequels that I’m sure most of us are looking forward to (Devil is a Part Timer), I’m really looking forward to watching Yof*ckashi no Uta. My favorite genre is anything romance, and the premise of this manga adaptation intrigues me—especially considering I had a lot of trouble with sleeping growing up.
How did you get to start to work on Carry me Home?
Ihave a music set up in my room that I built after streaming for a couple months. I started out streaming on my old school laptop. I had it set up on a dresser and sat on a foot stool while recording. It wasn’t great for my back, but it worked for me! Thanks to everyone’s love and support, I was able to afford a better set up, so I’ve been doing my best to make as many fun songs as I can!
When creating a song I usually try and find a vibe I want to go for. For instance, the song “Vegas Woes” was made after I got inspired by the time I went to Vegas for my birthday last year. I thought back to how cringe it was and translated it into the song.
What’s the story behind the cover illustration for the EP?
The cover art for every single EP I’ve released is done by my friend yun0jii. We’ve created a story with the incredible art she’s done and I can’t be more grateful for her and all her hard work.
The cover art is meant to portray me officially starting my journey as a content creator. I’ve transitioned from a silly demon girl to someone who’s able to make so many people happy and I am overwhelmed with emotions that I feel lost in what I should be doing a lot of the time. There’s a lot of other messages that are conveyed through the art, but I’ll leave that to the Noombas to analyze!
What’s your personal favorite track on the project?
My favorite song on the EP is definitely “Nostalgic Sunshine”. I wrote the song after seeing a friend from high school recently visit my town again after a few years and it had me thinking about how we went from best friends to strangers. I wrote it in hopes of her doing well with whatever she’s doing while I hope to do the same for myself and my streaming/music career.
What is the most “Numi” Song on the EP?
The most “Numi” song is definitely “Vegas Woes”. If you listen to the lyrics, you can definitely recognize the moments of my Vegas trip that I talked about a lot on my streams. It’s a very interesting song that I think everyone will enjoy and laugh to.
Do you have any further upcoming projects on the horizon?
I have a Meme album coming up really soon made especially for my viewers. They helped me create pretty much every song on this album, so I’m eager to hear their thoughts on that as well. I have a few models and updated lore in the works. I don’t wanna spoil too much, but there’s A LOT coming and I’m super excited.
Do you have any other goals for the future?
I wanna collab more with my friends and play more games! My streams are usually Just Chatting, so I wanna try more stuff out with my audience. I would also like a Dakimakura some day, but that’s a different conversation [Numi laughs]
